We’re delighted to team up with the charity Made By Sport to offer the opportunity for community sports clubs and organisations across the UK to receive £2021 in unrestricted support, through the ‘Clubs In Crisis’ fund.
The fund will open in April, in line with the unlocking of grassroots sport in the UK.
The 'Clubs In Crisis' fund has been created to help directly support the thousands of grassroots community sports clubs and organisations that do so much good work with young people in their local areas to promote positive outcomes including developing life skills such as communication, teamwork and discipline, providing employment opportunities and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
Last year, research conducted by Newton for Made By Sport, revealed that over 40% of local community sports clubs were either in deficit or just breaking even before the pandemic, with many operating on less than £10k per annum with 50% led by volunteers. The research indicated the impact of Covid-19 and the lockdowns could mean that 25% of community clubs may not be able to open their doors again.
In late 2020, Made By Sport launched a competition called ‘Clubs In Crisis’ to raise awareness of the plight of grassroots sports clubs and organisation across the country, with clubs from across the UK sharing their stories of how they have gone above and beyond to maintain enough money to survive or keep their facilities available post-pandemic.
That’s why we’ve joined forces with Made By Sport to offer these grants to clubs via UK Community Foundations, so they can survive the pandemic, open their doors to young people once again and help us as a society to build back better.
Funding will be made available for eligible grassroots sports clubs and organisations through the local community Foundations that make up the UK Community Foundations network from April 2021.
All the information on how to apply via one of the community Foundations can be found at www.madebysport.com/clubsincrisis
In order to be eligible for funding, clubs must provide clear evidence that they use sport as a mechanism to tackle social issues such as developing life skills, employment opportunities or reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
All the relevant information on how clubs can apply for funding will also be published on the Made By Sport website at www.madebysport.com/clubsincrisis
Made By Sport launched in 2019 with the aim of championing the power of sport to tackle social issues and unlock new sources of funding for grassroots organisations using sport to try to change people’s lives and help communities thrive. To find out more information visit: www.madebysport.com.
