Thorncliffe Bowling Club

The club is located to the north of Sheffield in the village of High Green on Thorncliffe Recreation Ground. It has been established for over fifty years and has teams in a number of Sheffield leagues. Membership ranges from under 21 years to over 90 years and the club welcome players of all ages and abilities.

The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1,000 was awarded to the club to enable it to further their 'Health in the Community scheme' by purchasing new sweatshirts, or fleeces for the older members. In addition, they will purchase new bowling woods so that visitors or referred patients from our new scheme have some equipment to use. New members often need assistance with starting up costs when joining or even playing casually. The club will then use any remaining funds on promoting an Open day, training new coaches, first aiders or child protection/vulnerable adult courses so that in the future they can integrate younger members of the community into the club so passing on skills between generations and sustaining the club membership.

"We would like to thank Cash for Clubs for the grant as it means we can invest in some essential equipment and courses so that Crown Green Bowling can be used by a wider group of the local community, Existing members, all volunteers, see this as a way of bridging the age gap between generations within the local community." Dennis Anderson, Members Secretary.
