Golden Ring ABC
Golden Ring Amateur Boxing Club is based in Southampton in Hants. Working in an underdeveloped area the club has had a huge success in producing quality boxers, as well as being able to offer classes to all, including juniors, seniors and women. With club coaches who work free of charge at the gym they have been able to create a strong sense of community and a strong work ethos.
The club has many aspirations, firstly to produce successful boxers but also to provide a boxing club that can accommodate as many different sessions to as many different groups as possible.
The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £500 was awarded to the club to enable them to purchase new equipment such as gloves and head guards. Boxing equipment can be costly, making it difficult for a club which keeps its subs down at a very low level in order to encourage and enable participation from the local community.
"We would like to thank Cash for Clubs for the grant as it means we can invest in some essential equipment for the club. In particular we need to buy gloves; we can now buy some much needed competition gloves for our boxers who regularly compete across the country. We can also buy gloves for the increasing number of youngsters that come through the door to give the sport a go."
