Glasgow Riderz
Glasgow Riderz are a grassroots cycling club based in Paisley, Renfrewshire. Their youth members are aged from 5 to 16, and are provided the opportunity to try track cycling and mountain biking in a car free environment and opportunities to try racing at grassroots cycling events. Their aim is to promote high-quality cycling techniques and provide the basis for young cyclists to develop and compete at regional, national and international level and promote cycling as a sport.
The club attracts members from all areas of Glasgow as they are currently the only community based children only cycling club within the city of Glasgow. They also have a policy of having no bike does not deter membership as they have a limited number of large track bikes, mountain bikes and helmets available.
Glasgow Riderz aspires to encourage children to cycle for both health and sport in a safe environment.
The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1,000 was awarded to the club to enable them to purchase a quantity of specialised track bikes to allow equity of access to small track bikes. This will help provide track bikes at their sessions that fit the younger age groups and will mean the under 10's can race against each other on correctly sized bikes.
"This grant from Cash4Clubs will be well received by Glasgow Riderz. Glasgow Riderz is a grassroots cycling club whose aim is to promote high-quality cycling techniques and provide the basis for young cyclists to develop and compete at regional, national and international level and promote cycling as a sport."
