Newcastle Wrestling Club
The Newcastle Wrestling Club is a division of the Sports for Youth Academy based in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear. They promote Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling in the region in addition to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
The clubs members come from a wide range of disadvantaged backgrounds and the clubs activities also aim to help prevent them getting involved in anti-social activities. The club gives something back to its local community club members, helping them to develop self-defence, self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence.
The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £1,000 was awarded to the club for the purchase of new wrestling mats, essential to ensure the health and safety of members during their twice weekly sessions. The current mats were becoming unusable and more mats were needed to cope with the clubs expanding membership.
"We will use the grant awarded from Cash 4 Clubs as a contribution to buy a brand new perfect health and safety mat and cover in order to train our athletes in a safe and healthy environment without any further concerns regarding risks or hazardous issues. This grant of £1,000 will make a huge difference to our club. We wish to attract new members in our club and we will not only encourage them to take up wrestling but will encourage them to train hard and look forward in the future to seeing some of our young Wrestlers competing at National and even International level," Newcastle Wrestling Club.
