East London Hockey Club

East London Hockey Club is a Hockey club based in Tower Hamlets, London. Founded in 1990 it currently fields five mens' teams, two ladies teams and one mixed team. The teams play at Mile End Astroturf, making them the closest club to the 2012 Olympics site. Members come from all backgrounds from across the catchment area of the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham.

The club's primary object is to offer the opportunity to play hockey to all, regardless of ability, race, religion, sex or any other factor. As one of the most centrally located hockey clubs in London, it provides hockey to a large populous, including a disproportionally large number of disadvantaged groups.

The club believes that everybody in the area, especially the local youths, should have the opportunity to try hockey. To achieve this they have decided to set-up a Youth Development Scheme, offering local children the opportunity to experience hockey by establishing partnerships with schools, offering after school taster sessions and starting weekly youth training sessions at the Astroturf in Mile End.

The Cash 4 Clubs sports grant of £500 was awarded to the club to help fund the training of five level-one coaches and two level-two qualified coaches. Through this coaching, the club will benefit by further engaging with the local community and hopefully developing a continuous pool of talented, young players who can continue to enjoy and play hockey with the club for many years.

"This award from Cash4Clubs will be a great enabler in train coaches and getting our Youth Development Scheme off the ground, which will provide local youngster with the chance to experience the joys of hockey for the first time" Daniel Goodacre, East London Hockey Club.
