Special Olympics St Albans
This unique club provides sporting opportunities for people with a learning disability in the Special Olympic sports of athletics, golf, football, boccia, swimming, equestrian and multi sports.
The support they get from the club helps increase their sporting and social skills, learn independence, develop a sense of achievement and improve their health and well-being.
Sessions are run in St Albans, however, as there are limited sporting provisions for individuals with disabilities, the clubs members come from as far as Watford, East Herts and Welwyn/Hatfield.
With the Special Olympics Great Britain National Games in July, the club are hoping to take over 40 athletes and coaches providing them with a huge opportunity to take part in a major event. The £1,000 sports grant they have been awarded by Cash 4 Clubs will allow the club
to help pay for travel to the games.
